Being that this session was planned months in advance, it never occurred to me that the Sunday we planned to do Kat’s senior session, also fell over Memorial day weekend. EVERYWHERE WAS A MAD HOUSE. Although we couldn’t get in to balboa park, we ultimately ended up at Seaport Village, and we got some GREAT stuff! It is always fun for me to walk in to a location, and try to find little gems that may not otherwise be looked at like an “ideal” photo op location, and we succeeded over and over again! With rich wood backgrounds, magically lit up trees, and of course, the carousel! Even in the middle of a busy holiday weekend, with people crawling around everywhere, we had a blast!
Just last week, I was given the great privilege of having an afternoon with baby Aubrey, and was able to capture some amazing shots! One of my favorite things to do with any photoshoot, is to bring in a little bit of personality. I don’t want my pictures to ever look like generic cookie cutter shots, I want them to feel like people Im photographing. I want to pull whats on the inside, out, and reveal something that feels real.
Aubrey’s mommy Pam has been in my life since I was born. Her Dad is my dads best friends, and who I call “Uncle Richard”. We grew up together, and now I get to watch her beautiful baby girl grow up through my lens! Pam and her husband Steve have grown up around cars, horsepower, and all things adventure and dirt. I thought it only fitting to add in a little of that flavor in to our shoot.
I can’t wait to do a full family shoot at her 6 month mark!
My Sister’s very best friend Nicole got married last month, and I felt extra special to be able to capture her big day. Ariel (my sister) and Nicole met in college, and have been joined at the hip for the last 5+ years. Nicole is 6 months pregnant and ADORABLE with that bump… I can’t wait to do her maternity photoshoot next month! Nicole and Josh got married in La Jolla, on a perfect sunny day, and then we got to party in Little Italy for the reception.
I had SO much fun following these guys around all day, with my backstage pass. Nicole’s “first look” with her dad had me in tears… something that happens pretty often at weddings these days, since I wed in August. Every time I see an emotional reveal, it takes me right back to my big day, and viola! tears.
Thank you Nicole and Josh for choosing me to be the one to capture the memories of one of the biggest days of your life! I can’t wait to see what this marriage brings, and I can’t wait to meet that sweet baby girl!
A few Saturdays ago, I had the pleasure of taking a small stroll along the water with the Miller family. They were in town visiting family for Easter, and wanted to squeeze in an early morning family portrait session. They are all so sweet, and so easy to shoot! I just had to tag along, and capture the cuteness as it came. We ended up at Scripps Pier in La Jolla, which is such a BEAUTIFUL spot to take family portraits! I had so much fun, and I was so excited to send them back home with a little piece of San Diego.
When I heard that Paul was in need of some head shots for his real estate career, I knew that I needed to be his girl! I have known Paul for a number of years, and knew that his lively and adventurous spirit belonged outside, and not in a stuffy studio, with head-shots that looked like they came from the 80s. I was hell bent and determined to prove my theory on him, and I sure do believe it worked!! We took some studio shots, “just because”, but spent most of our time running around downtown San Diego, looking for interesting backgrounds. I had so much fun shooting Paul, and am so thrilled to see some artistic flair break in to the real estate market!
I have known Aleesha since high school, so when her girlfriend Ashlyn asked me to be a part of her surprise proposal, I was THRILLED!! Catching a proposal on video, and film, is something that I would love to do a whole lot more of. It is such a genuine, and intimate part of a wedding story, and I feel like it is so often missed! My husband was able to catch our proposal on video, (thanks to a trusty point and shoot camera, and a tree), and it is one of my most prized and treasured possessions, so to be able to do that for someone else is just amazing!
Aleesha and Ashlyn frequented a cute little coffee shop named Cosmos for date nights, so it was only fitting for Ashlyn to pop the question right there. I got there ahead of time to set everything up, and then once I knew they were almost there, I set up post, hiding in the bathroom. When it was time to start rolling, Ashlyn shot a quick text, and I captured the whole thing without Aleesha being the wiser! As soon as they had their special moment together, I came out, and took some shots, and then we decided to celebrate with an engagement shoot right on the spot!
I had so much fun celebrating such a fun time with both of them, and wish them nothing but all the happiness in the world in the future!
