A SUPRISE Proposal with Steven and Taryn

Surprise proposals are just SO FUN to be a part of! When I got engaged, Michael caught our proposal on video (we were on the top of a mountain), and it is one of my most treasured things. In that moment, there is so much going through your head; your heart is beating, and all you can do is watch every dream you have ever had flash before your eyes as you scream “YES!!” and wrap your arms around him, completely forgetting to even look at the ring.

This is where I come in. I get to hide (sometimes in plain sight if the bride to be doesn’t know me), and capture the whole thing on video. THEN once the deed is done, and the excitement has set in, we get to run around and take adorable pictures. It is such a neat thing to have, and I feel so lucky to get to be a part of capturing such a precious moment in a persons relationship.

Steven and Taryn was an extra special proposal for me to capture, because I have known Steven and his sister since I was born. Our parents met in lamaze, and his sister and I grew up together from birth. We have never completely lost touch, but it had been a good five years since I had seen her, when I got “the call”. Her brother was getting engaged. ENGAGED?!?! How did little baby brother Steven get old enough to get engaged? I had not seen Steven in a good ten years, so needless to say, I was pretty excited to capture this moment.

After talking with Steven for five minutes on the phone, I knew that he had found the right girl. “When you know, you just know”. He gushed on and on about how perfect of a fit they are, and how anxious he was to get the ring on her finger. Hearing guys so excited over an engagement warms my heart every time.

I set up post at Goldfish Point in La Jolla, and waited right there on the cliff for them to show up. They walked right in to frame, in a way I could not have directed any better, and BOOM adorable love. (want to watch their video? Click Here)

After the proposal, which received a round of applause from spectators all over the beach, we ran around and took some fun pictures, before Steven walked her in to a surprise engagement dinner with family and friends galore. Some flew in from as far away as Texas! It was such a beautiful evening filled with so much love, and I am so lucky to have been a part of it!
